Some burn bans continue through Labor Day

Posted: Updated:
TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

Even though it has rained, some counties in the Tri-State are still under burn bans.

Two of our Tri-State counties in Indiana are under a ban and they are Vanderburgh and Gibson Counties. County officials in all other Indiana counties in our Tri-State area have lifted their burn bans.

The emergency declaration that banned fireworks over the summer was lifted several weeks ago. However, setting off fireworks in Vanderburgh is not allowed except on certain days declared by officials. Labor Day weekend is the first chance for those in Vanderburgh to set off fireworks since well before the Fourth of July.

After Labor Day, the next days set aside for fireworks is two days before and the day after Veterans Day, which is November 11. Fireworks can be set off during those days during the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 11: p.m.

The amended ordinance also allows fireworks on December 30 and January 1 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

All of the Kentucky counties in our viewing area are burn ban free. County officials lifted their bans back in the middle of August.

The ban in Wabash County, Illinois has been lifted as well.
