FERDINAND, IN (WFIE) -

The town of Ferdinand is going to receive state funding to spruce up its historic Wollenman Home.

The state of Indiana recently awarded dozens of Community Focus Fund grants to towns looking to rebuild things like wastewater systems, fire houses, and historical landmarks.

Kathy Tretter is a member of the Ferdinand Historical Society, and she says the Wollenman Home was built in 1903 by a Swedish doctor.

Tretter says with the $400,000 grant, they will be able to renovate the home, replacing windows and updating its electricity.

"The hope is, of our group, to maybe lease it for a business," noted Tretter. "We are actually working with somebody on it. I think that it will be a great addition to the town. We can certainly use more commercial. So it will be great."

Tretter says she expects renovations to the home to be complete within the next two years.
