Evansville Volleyball beats Alabama A&M

Junior Jenn Murphy recorded 28 assists as the Purple Aces volleyball team swept its way past Alabama A&M by a 3-0 final in Friday's opener at the Morehead State Tournament.

Junior Lauren Seyller led UE with 11 kills while Katie Klages tallied 11 digs.  Leading the Bulldogs was Clarissa Moore, who notched 13 kills.

A kill by Moore in the opening set helped Alabama A&M open up a 2-0 lead, but UE came right back, registering the next three tallies to take the lead.  With the Aces hanging on to a 7-6 edge, Ashley Ring notched a pair of kills as the Aces would score three points in a row before pulling away for the 25-19 win.

Evansville took the second set by an identical 25-19 final, but it would not come as easy as the first.  The Bulldogs battled early on as the squads split the first 20 points, but with the score knotted at 10-10, UE reeled off six points in a row and never looked back.  Alabama A&M was responsible for three errors in the set-changing run.

Up 2-0, the Aces made sure to finish the job in set three, scoring the first three before cruising to a 25-12 victory.  A pair of 5-0 runs helped to clinch the match.  Up 11-6, a kill by Rachel TenHoor helped UE score the next five to take a 16-6 lead.  Up 20-10 moments later, Meaghan Holmes had a kill that UE turned into another 5-0 stretch to earn the win.

While UE won every statistical category, the main point to stand out was the Aces' dominance on offense.  Evansville hit .329 in the win while Alabama A&M hit just .212.

Later today, the Aces will be back in action against host Morehead State.  The Eagles and Aces will begin play at 6 p.m. at Wetherby Gym.
