Like working with kids and animals? Become a Mesker Park Zoo docent

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

If you like working with animals and children, listen up.

The Mesker Park Zoo is currently taking applications for their docent training program.

Docents are zoo volunteers who provide educational experiences through presentations and even live animals.

To become a docent, you must complete an application, attend a 36-hour training course, and commit to fulfilling 60 volunteer hours per year.

The first docent training session will be held on October 11.

Individual interviews will be held prior to the training session start date.

Director of the zoo Amos Morris says this is a good opportunity especially for those who love animals.

"There's a group of the docents that get to handle animals, some of our education animals so you get some training in animal handling and you get to take that out into the public and use that training to help engage the kids and zoo visitors," said Morris.
