MT. VERNON, IN (WFIE) -

A Posey County man has been charged with attempted murder after breaking into the apartment of a 70-year-old woman.

Mt. Vernon Police responded to a reported burglary at the Green Valley Apartment Complex Wednesday Night. Inside the apartment, police found 70-year-old Frances Jarvis, with bruising around her throat and a laceration on the back of her head.

Upon further investigation, police were led to 28-year-old Christopher Jolley.

Jolley was located inside the apartment building and taken to the Posey County Jail for questioning.

During the interview, Jolley admitted to breaking into the apartment in hopes of stealing prescription medication.  Once inside the apartment, Jolley said he had pushed Jarvis down and attempted to suffocate her, to keep her from making any noise.

Jolley was lodged in the jail on charges of attempted murder, burglary resulting in injury and aggravated batter.

The Posey County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police assisted in the investigation.
