Unsolved Murder: Andrea Michelle Hendrix-Steinert

October 29, 1997

Gibson County, Indiana

Andrea Michelle Hendrix-Steinert, 28, was found dead near Francisco, Indiana off Highway 351.

A highway worker spotted her nude body in a ditch. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled and had been dead anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. Police say the victim wasn't killed where she had been found.

Andrea was last seen alive in the afternoon, October 27 at a gas station on the corner of Virginia and Fares in Evansville. Her body was found two days later.

Steinert had a criminal history in both drugs and prostitution, but family and friends say she was turning her life around, working a new job, and going to drug rehabilitation programs. When murdered, Andrea left behind a young daughter.

Detectives exhumed her body November 19th, 1997 hoping to find new DNA clues that would lead to her killer.

In 2007, her murder was loosely linked to Bruce Mendenhall

To this date the murder remains unsolved.
