MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

The Mississippi National Guard is helping get some Mississippi residents to safety from Tropical Storm Isaac's flood waters.

The first rescue occurred off of Spruce Street in Waveland, Mississippi where a couple and a one-month old baby were rescued by the Mississippi National Guard assisted by the Department of Homeland Security.

The family lived in a house rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina and felt their new home, now 8-feet raised, would be safe.

When the water began approaching the limit, they called for help. The mother, father and one-month old were all taken to safety.

Separately, three employees of WQRZ radio were rescued from their station in Waveland. The owner called for the rescues, but he stayed behind to keep the radio station on the air.

The radio station is a lower power operation that got a lot of credit for keeping local residents informed during Katrina.

Waveland is a small town in Hancock County that was virtually cut off from the rest of the state after Katrina.
