Aces make "big" signing

University of Evansville head men's basketball coach Marty Simmons has announced the signing of Egidijus Mockevicius to a Athletics Grant In Aid to play for the Purple Aces.

Mockevicius, a 6-10 center, comes to Evansville from Vilnius, Lithuania where he attended the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences.

A member of the Lithuania U20 National Team, Mockevicius helped the country to the U20 European Championship in July of 2012 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.  His top outing of the tournament came when he scored 20 points against Spain before posting a team-high 11 in the championship win over France where Lithuania edged them out by a 50-49 final.

He averaged 7.3 points per game while leading the Lithuanians to a 6-3 record in their championship run.  An efficient shooter, Mockevicius hit 27 out of 44 shots to finish the tournament with a .614 shooting percentage.

Mockevicius is the latest addition to join Simmons' 2012 class. He joins freshmen D.J. Balentine, David Howard and Adam Wing.
