EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police is hosting a 'Responding to the Church Crisis' training day in September.

EPD says they want residents to start thinking about what they would do or what they should do if faced with dangerous and sometimes deadly situations when gathered in large crowds like Sunday mass.

The event 'Responding to the Church Crisis' will be held at the First Baptist Church in Downtown Evansville, but everyone is encouraged to register.

The Center for Advanced Technical Law Enforcement Training will be presenting different scenarios and showing churches how to protect themselves from people who may do harm.

EPD says training can keep everyone on the same page, and the information learned can be useful in many situations not just places of worship.

"You might not have thought of certain things, access points, security, physical security of a building, personal security, what to watch for. Part of it is threat assessment, identifying who and what the threats are. Now, granted we can't prepare for everything, but if we can get people thinking in the right direction, it's going to benefit the individual not only at church but at home, and their general workings," said Sgt. Darren Sroufe with Evansville Police.

The event will be held Thursday, September 13th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on 320 Cherry Street in Downtown Evansville.

You do need to register for the event, and can do so by logging onto CATLET's website or by calling 800-636-9107.

It does cost $70 for the training event and includes lunch.
