Fill up today because Isaac could cause rising gas prices

TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

There is one way that Isaac could affect you even if you're not in the path of the storm.

Prices at the pump are heading higher as Tropical Storm Isaac forces several major refineries along the Gulf Coast to halt production in preparation for high winds and heavy rains.

The U.S. government says 78 percent of the oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been halted.

That's your cue to go ahead and fill up your gas tank, because they will most likely begin to rise over the next few days.

Hurricane Katrina and Rita took a similar path and caused a huge spike in gas prices.

Right now, Isaac does not appear to be become near the strength of those storms but it will still be strong enough to cause pressure on the Gulf Coast oil industry.
