Future uncertain for Gabe's Tower in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The future of Gabe's Tower in Owensboro is still uncertain, however, a company has expressed interest in renovating the property.

City officials say the company has only made very preliminary inquiries into the building. The empty hotel's owner has received several fines and code violations.

No one has lived in the tower for several years.

One local business owner says she'd like to see some sort of action taken as soon as possible.

"If it would be an apartment complex, you know, that would be great because it would bring shoppers here, shoppers back there. It would help the economy," said business owner Tammy LaForce. "But if it's going to sit there like that, it needs to come down. It's just really awful looking, and it's just a huge eyesore."

The city says it plans to move forward and eventually tear down Gabe's Tower. It would cost millions of dollars to renovate the property.
