BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -
Three teens were arrested Friday for making violent threats aimed towards Edgewood High School in St. Clair Township, after a series of tweets sparked concern. The teens, all males aged 17, allegedly tweeted in a manner indicating school violence involving assault rifles, shotguns, and explosives.
School officials contacted the school resource officer, a Butler County Sheriff's Deputy, once they discovered the threatening tweets. Sheriff's deputies and investigators acted quickly to identify the individuals involved.
At this time the suspects have been interviewed concerning the alleged plot, and are facing charges. Two of the teens have been charged with delinquency by reason of menacing, and have been released to the supervision of their parents. The third boy is charged with delinquency by reason of making terroristic threats, inducing panic, and menacing. He is currently detained in the Butler County Juvenile Detection Center. It is unclear whether the teens had any actual possession of or access to the types of weapons mentioned in the tweets.
Sheriff Richard Jones says "in today's society comments or threats of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstance and violators will be arrested and criminally charged to the maximum degree of the law.
The investigation continues and FOX19 will continue to update the story.
