OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - The opening of Smothers Park this week is not only a present to the people of Owensboro and Western Kentucky, but a gift to the entire Tri-State.
Other communities are seeing what can happen if local leaders think big and stay the course. We've seen Owensboro's transformation evolve in recent years as blueprints become construction sites and dreams, reality.
Owensboro's riverfront is poised to become a regional magnet for economic growth and tourism. With new hotels, businesses, condos and future conventions, it just gets better and better.
Congratulations go out to the planners, the investors, and the citizens who supported the visionaries, all wanting more than just the common place and status quo.
Maybe Evansville can learn a thing or two from its smaller Kentucky neighbor. Evansville officials don't need to fly across the country to get ideas and inspiration. All it takes is a 45 minute drive to downtown Owensboro.
That's my stand. What's yours?
