EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police arrested two men on theft charges after witnesses reported seeing them stealing from cars early this morning.

20-year-old Kevin Wheeler and 19-year-old Kenneth Berendes were taking items from unlocked cars in the 700 block of Keck Avenue when a witness saw them and called police.

Officers located both men in the neighborhood and found items in their possession that had been taken from several cars. The witness confirmed that Wheeler and Berendes were the ones that had been stealing from the cars.

The total "haul" in their late night crime spree was $5 in change and two lighters. The items were returned to their owners.

This is the second rash of theft from vehicles in that area in 2 weeks. Six juveniles were arrested in the previous cases.
