OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

There was good news for the Daniel Pitino Shelter in Owensboro on Monday.

It received a $50,000 check from Walmart. The shelter was nominated for the grant by representative Tommy Thompson.

The shelter serves lunch and dinner to anyone who needs it, and they say they plan to use the money to serve more people and to help clients with life skills so they can get back on their feet.

"We are blessed to be considered for this grant, and you know, I always say that homelessness is not just a shelter issue. It's a community issue and it's great to see someone take part of that and be part of that," said James Barnett with the shelter.

The shelter serves between 60 and 250 people a day.
