The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Adopt-a-Highway Poster Contest is giving kids a chance to show off their creativity.
Kids will have a chance to have their work displayed in a 2013 statewide calendar for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The theme is "Adopt a highway, make it yours" so the only specific rule is making sure that the art reflects something along the lines of keeping our highways clean.
The overall goal is to raise environmental awareness to educate students about the devastating effects of littering and to stress the importance of keeping Kentucky's highways free of litter.
It's open to students all the way from elementary to the high school level.
To make the contest fair, there are four different age groups, starting with kids between the ages of 6 and 8, then 9 and 11, 12 and 14, and finally 15 to 17.
Parents and teachers are asked to encourage students to participate in this statewide Adopt-a-Highway program that's been around since 1988.
The winners will also be presented with an award at a state luncheon.
All entries need to be submitted by September 30th.
