JASPER, IN (WFIE) -

A Jasper man is in jail Friday night after being accused of stealing a bag of candy.

Jasper dispatch reportedly received a call from an employee of the Holiday Foods store in Jasper, that they had detained a shoplifter.

After responding to the call, Jasper Police arrested 61-year-old Gregory Salb, who was allegedly trying to steal a bag of Claeys Candies, marked at 95 cents.

Jasper Police say this isn't the first time Salb was caught stealing.

"Everyone's first reaction would normally be to go to that level of compassion, 'Oh it's an older gentleman. Did he just forget? Is there something medical going on here?' However in this case the suspect is no stranger to our criminal justice system and as a matter of fact has a previous arrest and conviction for shoplifting at that same store," said Detective Sgt. Lisa Miller with the Jasper Police Department.

Detective Miller says Jasper Police work closely with small business owners to prevent thefts and prosecute any offenders.

Salb was taken to the Dubois County Security Center.
