Tell City Police investigating string of vehicle fires

Posted: Updated:
TELL CITY, IN (WFIE) -

Tell City Police are investigating a string of fires that have taken place over the past three weeks.

Police say the fires, as well as other acts of vandalism took place 1200 block of Tenth Street.

Officers say there were three vehicle fires, and all are suspicious.

They happened in the early morning hours, and police say a 'works bomb' was found near one of the vehicles.

Investigators say a 'works bomb' uses an accelerant, within a plastic bottle, to create an explosion, but they aren't certain one would have enough force to ignite a vehicle.

"We're not for sure if these are being used to ignite this vehicle," said Lt. Detective Alan Malone.  "We don't know if accelerant is being used. Fire marshals have come in and helped us with the investigation and we're kind of moving along, just to find out if these devices are being used."

If you have any information on these suspected arsons, contact the Tell City Police Department's anonymous tip line at (812) 547-9563.
