Fire investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a house fire that killed two dogs.
It broke out around 11:00 Friday morning at a home on Victory Street in Morton's Gap.
Crews quickly responded to the scene and put out the flames.
No people were injured, but the owners two dogs died of smoke inhalation. Along with the Morton's Gap Fire Department, volunteer departments from Grapevine, South Hopkins, and White Plains assisted.
Officials on scene say there was substantial damage to the home, and Morton's Gap Fire Chief Joseph Hancock says their preliminary cause is accidental.
"Me and a couple other chiefs will probably get together and go in and do an investigation and if we have to, we'll call a fire marshall in here," said Chief Hancock. "We'll take whatever steps we need to."
Chief Hancock says these kinds of events are rare for Morton's Gap because the last house fire like this was over a year ago.
