MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

The more than $3 million renovation project continues at Madisonville Community College, and school officials say work is ahead of schedule.

Nick Adcock and his friends are Freshman and he says it's been somewhat difficult navigating their way around MCC as a new student, especially with construction.

"It took me, you know, 15 minutes to go in one building and find the class that you were looking for, so it's just confusing at times," Adcock said.

But he knows this renovation to the John H. Gray building will eventually make things a whole lot easier.

"You don't want to go to two different places for the same class," he said.

One key addition Adcock is referring to is the new Student Start Center, an area that combines counseling, registration, financial aid, testing, and admission questions all in one area.

"It's recognizable," said Dean of Business Affairs Ray Gillaspie." The students pull up that's where I need to go and that's where you're going to be serviced and we're not going to be sending people all over the campus. It's going to consolidate our services tremendously."

Dean Gillaspie says besides just renovations to the current building, they're adding more space to make room for the center.

"We're adding about 10,000 square feet of usable space by extending the roof line and creating a clear story on this end which will give us a lot of light in the building," he said. "It'll change the look of the building tremendously."

Adcock says he's especially looking forward to the new Student Start Center because he'll be able to use it for pretty much his entire time at MCC.

"It's not like you're a senior and just thinking 'I wish I would have had that freshmen year.' It's great to have it," Adcock told 14 News.

School officials say contractors technically have until May to finish construction, but they're ahead of schedule and hope to have everything completed by January.
