WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -
It was back to school for most area students this morning.
That includes students at Castle High School, who had their first day of classes since a student allegedly posted an online threat.
The halls of Castle High were alive with the sound of busy students getting back into their routines.
"Today is very consistent with all other starts to the school that I've been involved with," said Principle Andy Byres.
For the most part it was like any other school day, except for a few security changes.
"We take any threat seriously," said Byars. "I'm not going to get into particulars, but we have done some things with our staff. We've trained staff. They have expectations they have not had before, and those are internal decisions we've made just to improve our security here."
School officials announced Monday the student in question would not be attending school until the matter was resolved, and also said security would be increased at all 17 Warrick County schools, including Castle.
Such actions seem to have comforted some Castle High parents.
"They acted quickly, they acted effectively and I have a great deal of confidence in the school corporation and the teachers at castle high school," said Catherine Jefferson, mother of castle senior.
"I always say this, it's kind of my mantra, if your child's here, I'm going to treat your child as I would my own and I think that's critical because I'm going to make sure they have a safe secure and calm environment," said Principle Byers.
A woman claiming to be the mother of the student in question says, the student was posting lyrics to a song and was just exercising his First Amendment rights.
