Despite rain, Gov. Daniels says IN still dealing with drought

INDIANA (WFIE) -

Despite recent rains, Governor Daniels says Indiana is still dealing with a devastating drought.

Daniels says the rainfall has varied from place to place around the state and he is leaving it up to local officials on any water restrictions and whether burn bans should be lifted.

But the governor says the rain is a welcome sight for all Hoosiers.

"It has been good, finally, to get some rain. I would guess though, 'caution' is still the watch word. Everything I'm reading says that we may still have a below average precipitation for a while. Until we actually see it, I think it probably behooves us all to be careful," Governor Daniels said.

The National Weather Service still lists much of the Tri-State under drought conditions.
