Hundreds of jobs come with Farbest Foods groundbreaking

KNOX CO., IN (WFIE) -

A Dubois County based turkey processing company has announced plans to build a $70 million plant in Knox County.

With those plans come hundreds of new jobs.

Farbest Foods first announced in December its plans to build the Vincennes plant. The company expects the plant to have 360 workers at first and possibly add many more as production increases.

The company says the 227,000 square foot processing plant in Vincennes is an extension of Farbest's Turkey Processing Operations based in Huntingburg.

"We couldn't be more happy to be making this investment in Vincennes, Knox County, and the surrounding region," said company president Ted Seger. " We look forward to a successful partnership that will benefit your communities, the state of Indiana, and customers of Farbest Foods."

Farbest Foods says they chose Vincennes for its site because of all the availability of locally-grown grains, the potential for contracting new turkey-growing farms in the tri-state area, and the support it received from officials of Vincennes, Knox County, and Indiana's Economic Development Corporation and Department of Agriculture.

Seger was joined by Governor Mitch Daniels and Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum in Tuesday's groundbreaking ceremony.

Yochum says they are in the process of constructing a turkey feed mill in Bruceville in northern Knox County that will employ an additional 30 workers.

Farbest says they will work to complete the feed processing plant first, and they expect to open up at this location in January of 2014.
