VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -
The man troopers clocked at speeds of 119 mph was, reportedly, late for court.
24-year-old Joshua Smith of Omaha, IL was scheduled to be in a Vanderburgh County court at 9 A.M., Tuesday morning. He was supposed to appear in the Circuit Court for possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop at an accident.
But he did not make that appearance, and will now have more legal issues to deal with.
Around 10 A.M. a trooper spotted a yellow Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed. Troopers were patrolling a high crash area on S.R. 62 between Rosenberger and the Posey County line.
The trooper activated his radar unit and clocked the vehicle at 119 in a 55 mph.
The driver of the Challenger continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and passed numerous vehicles. As the trooper approached McDowell Road he lost sight of the vehicle.
Several minutes later, another trooper spotted the Dodge Challenger as it turned back onto S.R. 62 from McDowell Road.
He stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Joshua Smith.
Further investigation revealed Smith turned down McDowell road in attempt to elude the pursuing trooper. Smith was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
He is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class D Felony and Reckless Driving, a Class B Misdemeanor.
