DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -
An eight hour standoff between an 18-year-old man and law enforcement in Daviess County ended with no one hurt Monday night.
The situation began around 10:30 Monday morning when friends of Samuel Clark Powell told authorities he was sending suicidal text messages.
The sheriff's office says the standoff began later when Powell ended up at his stepfather's home on Taylor Road West in Masonville with a gun.
After hours of negotiation and other tactics, officers say they were able to use tear gas to get Powell out of a garage around 10:45 Monday night.
He was taken to OMHS for a mental evaluation and was then taken to jail.
Powell is charged with burglary and wanton endangerment. His court date is set for August 15th.
Our crew was on the scene just off Highway 231 as authorities negotiated with Powell.
Our reporter says the Daviess County Sheriff's Office and SWAT team were called.
Jennifer and Chris Wathen told our reporter they live not too far from the scene.
"It's kind of scary because you don't know what's going on," Jennifer said of the situation.
