NEW HARMONY, IN (WFIE) -

We're told a New York-based investment firm has offered to fully fund a new New Harmony Bridge.

The current bridge that was built in 1930 has been shut down since May.

Because the New Harmony Bridge is under private control, it is ineligible for federal funds.

Indiana Representative Wendy McNamara says she has been in communication with the firm, National Standard.

"They have $3 billion in assets international business investments. They have experience in investing in private partnerships with public entities to build bridges, among other things, so it would be a natural fit for our community. But it's an option we need to explore and see how it fits here for our community," McNamara said.

INDOT has also made a $10 million offer for a new bridge which could cover about half the cost of the new bridge.
