TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
Some major headaches Thursday night, land line phone service is down and businesses are reporting problems with their credit/debit card machines.
Our media partner, the Princeton Daily Clarion is reporting it's due to a circuit issue with AT&T in Evansville.
At Dick Clark's in Princeton, they are having to run all credit cards manually.
Sarah Boling has worked as a waitress at Dick Clark's for seven years.
This is the first time she's seen something like this.
"When I came to work they said that the credit card machine is down," Boling told 14 News.
"Everyone was in shock because we have a pretty good system," said Dick Clark's owner Jeff Clark.
Clark said the machines went offline Thursday afternoon.
"Fifty-percent of our business is debit or credit cards, so there's not that much cash out there anymore."
Employees are now running those plastic cards manually, which is a risk because there's no pre-authorization.
"On a debit card, we very rarely get a decline, so we felt safe on taking that risk."
And other businesses are reporting similar problems.
"I started hearing around 4:00, everyone was having trouble, too," Clark said.
"It's kind of an inconvenience because I did stop by the gas stations before work and their credit card machine wasn't working either," Boling said.
Now, Jeff Clark just hopes all those transactions clear Friday.
The issue with the circuit causing this problem is expected to be fixed within the next couple hours.
AT&T Spokesman, Jim Kimberly released this statement Thursday night:
"Due to a 3rd party cable cut, some of our customers in the Evansville area may be experiencing issues with their service today. We are aware of this issue and we are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers."
