POSEY COUNTY, IN (WFIE) -

A new home for wounded Army veteran Sgt. Kenneth Harker could be ready sooner than expected.

The outside walls are up and construction is underway inside for the Homes For Our Troops dream home.

Builder Mike Conti says it's an honor to be part of this project.

Nearly three weeks ago, more than 100 volunteers began with a concrete foundation and began building from there.

Thursday, plumbers were inside working on a bathroom.

For those of you who haven't heard his story, Sgt. Harker was on his second deployment in June 2008 when he lost both of his legs in Iraq, and after surgeries and treatment , he returned to Indiana last year.

Thursday night, Conti says he's expecting insulation to go in soon and drywall should go up next week.

He says, building this type of home, has been a new challenge.

"It's been a challenge because it's a new style home for me. It's all ADA handicapped accessible. I'm not used to doing that so it's page by page, as we go."

But, he is the man for the job.

The home will feature low countertops, stoves and showers to allow Sgt. Harker to live a more normal life.
