OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Owensboro officials are hoping to take action soon on a city eyesore known as Gabe's Tower.

What was once a thriving facility has become an eyesore in recent years.

Gabe's Tower used to be a successful hotel.  The last time it was used? Over six years ago.

The city continues to cite the tower for property maintenance violations.  City leaders say they're more than willing to talk with the owner, but haven't been able to get ahold of him.

The City Commission has asked its staff to look at all of the possibilities of doing something with the tower, even trying to condemn it and possibly have it torn down.

Within 30 days, city leaders will file foreclosure if the owner doesn't pay up.

"They have consistently been concerned with dilapidated properties throughout the entire community. Not just Gabe's Tower and we continue to work on those properties. Of course respecting the interests and the ownership rights individual citizens have but looking for the benefit of the whole community," said City Attorney Ed Ray.

Again, no decision has been made for what to do with the property.
