EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police say a man has been arrested after he shot at an occupied car.

Authorities say while investigating a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of S. Roosevelt Officers learned that 23-year-old Vashon Sherman had been arguing with his girlfriend, Apollonia Nelson.

Officials say as Nelson was leaving in her car, Sherman fired a shot into the back windshield.

Officers also learned that the Nelson's 6-year-old son was in the back seat of the car at the time of the shooting. He was not injured.

EPD says when officers arrived, both Sherman and Nelson told them that an unknown person had shot at their car during a drive-by shooting.

Police say an independent witness came forward and told officers that Sherman had fired the shot at the car.

Officers say they located the gun under a nearby car.

Sherman was arrested for 2 counts of Criminal Recklessness and 1 count of Possession of a Handgun without a Permit.
