OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Daviess County area leaders got a first look at the new Smothers Park in downtown Owensboro.

On Wednesday at GRADD's Board of Directors meeting, Owensboro City Manager Bill Parrish showed the group pictures of Smothers Park before the revitalization back in 2008. Then he showed pictures of what the park looks like now.
Smothers Park is the largest project Owensboro has ever taken on. It's four blocks long, complete with a memorial, fountains, a playground, and the best views of the river in downtown Owensboro.

"It's important that Owensboro, we build ourselves as the economic leader of this region and we think it's important for all of our peers to be a part of that. We fully expect our peers to participate in the use of all of the downtown facilities," Parrish said.

Smothers Park will open with a three day celebration beginning August 23rd.
