Roof construction still underway as Hopkins Co. students return

Posted: Updated:
HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

It's back to class today in Hopkins County, with a traffic alert near Madisonville North Hopkins High School.

Construction is still finishing up on a new roof at North so there's some minor changes that drivers heading to the school need to be aware of.

If you remember back to earlier this year during the first part of March, the Tri-State was hit with some intense storms creating widespread damage and the roof of the Madisonville North Hopkins High School was hit hard.

It needed to be repaired and crews are still finishing up that construction.

So school officials are urging residents to pay attention to a couple changes.

First, buses will be re-routed and are loading and unloading on the east side of the school next to the staff parking lot, instead of in front of the school.

People dropping off and picking up students will come through the main entrance and circle the building like normal. The only change is they will now be dropped off at the southeast corner of the school, with drivers continuing to exit by the soccer field.

If you need additional assistance with these changes, there will be a teacher on duty to help out.

This will likely last for the next week or two.

It may be a little hectic as the beginning of the school year always is, so school officials are asking residents to just be patient as construction finishes up.

Hancock county schools also start today.
