EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
This morning, we're one step closer to finding out who will build Evansville's Downtown Convention Hotel.
Monday was the deadline for interested developers to submit their qualifications to the Department of Metropolitan Development.
The Evansville Redevelopment Commission will decide which developers it wants.
Those groups will submit actual proposals for the project.
Whoever is selected will be tasked with building a 240 to 270 room hotel.
Developers who submitted qualifications will be announced at this morning's Evansville Redevelopment Commission meeting.
We do know the Kunkel Group is not one of them.
As you may recall, the Kunkel Group was originally the chosen developer on the project.
The Weinzapfel administration agreed to give them 8 million dollars in incentives to get construction started.
This was before the new administration called an additional study, to research the appropriate size of the hotel.
The city is expected to choose a developer by early November.
We will have a crew at that meeting and bring you the latest tonight on 14 News and online right here at 14News.com.
