Memorial High Trustees release redevelopment plan

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Board of Trustees at Reitz Memorial High School has released its neighborhood redevelopment plan.

The group says over the past five years the school and its supporters have secured ownership of 35 properties along Bennighof and Lodge Avenues.

The school has plans for a 156 space parking area to ease parking congestion in the neighborhood and improve traffic flow especially for emergency vehicles.

The proposal also calls for a soccer field on the southwest corner of the new parking area. Memorial officials say the sponsor six interscholastic soccer teams and that those teams are required to travel off campus in order to practice and play their games.  A soccer field would allow Memorial to bring this program back to their campus and will also strengthen Memorial's physical education and intramural programs.

The plan will now to the Evansville City Council and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
