WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -
The sheriff's department is investigating an alleged online threat made by a Warrick County student on Facebook.
School officials say there will be increased security when students return to classes next week at Castle High School. The alleged Facebook threat was made by a student shortly following the movie theatre shooting in Colorado.
On Monday night, parents aired their concerns at the Warrick County School Board meeting.
Both parents and students attended the meeting and they were met with more questions than answers.
School starts next Wednesday and some students are afraid to go.
"That's a lot of people's main concern, 'Are we going to be able to walk in the doors and not have a problem?'" said senior Hannah Classick.
At the school board meeting, officials said legally they cannot go into the details of the case.
At this point, it's unclear if the student at the center of this investigation will be attending school next Wednesday. That didn't sit well with parents.
"If we have a zero tolerance police, why can they not unsure our children safety and not allow this child into school?" asked parent Judy Dillback.
"That's one question if it could be answered, it would relieve so many people worries as to where this student is going to be," said parent Jenny Elkins.
"We are going to do everything within our power to insure the start of school is safe for all students and not just Castle High School students, but all of the other 16 Warrick County schools as well," said Warrick County's School Superintendent Brad Schneider.
Schneider says side school doors will be locked and staff will do random door checks. The sheriff's office is expected to have a presence at the school at least for the first week.
"I would like to know if they'll be doing a search upon entering the school. Will they have police officers with dogs at that doors?" Elkins said.
Officials say they hope to give more information to parents and students once the investigation is completed. School officials think that will happen before the first bell rings.
A woman claiming to be the mother of the student in question tells 14 News the posts were lyrics to a song. She says her child was just exercising a first amendment right.
Warrick County Sheriff's Deputies say they are also investigating four other people who liked the Facebook posts.
No charges have been filed. As for any disciplinary action, officials say they will not comment on that.
