EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

We're a step closer to finding out who will build Evansville's downtown convention hotel.

Monday was the deadline for interested developers to submit their qualifications to the Department of Metropolitan Development.

From there, the Evansville Redevelopment Commission will decide which developers it wants to submit actual proposals for the project. Whoever is selected will submit plans for a 240 to 270 room hotel.

"Given the financing climate, the response to our Request for Qualifications has been good and as of right now, in the middle of the day, we have four respondents to the RFQ. We're pleased," said Philip Hooper, the Executive Director of the Department of Metropolitan Development.

Qualifications were being accepted until 5 p.m. Monday night.

Developers who submitted qualifications will be announced at Tuesday morning's Evansville Redevelopment Commission meeting.

We do know the Kunkel Group is not one of them.

A decision on who the developer will be is expected in early November.
