EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A section of Oak Hill Road near Evansville Regional Airport will close on Tuesday for about a month because of the ongoing runway improvement project.

Starting Tuesday, EVV says traffic will be rerouted away from State Road 57 at Oak Hill.

EVV's Diana Page says this project is federally mandated by the FAA, and involves the relocation of runway pavement from the area near the U.S. 41 and St. George Road intersection, to the northeast side of the airport near the Oak Hill Road and State Road 57 intersection.

She says this project is being done to raise the main runway to the proper government safety-standards.

Page says the Oak Hill Road and State Road 57 intersection will be closed starting Tuesday through the next 30 days or less. She also says traffic will be rerouted around this area through either Kansas or Petersburg Roads.

"We just really appreciate the public's patience through all of this. It's gonna be a much-improved road system once we're all done. But, as we all know, construction can be a little bit of a pain. So hopefully it will be short lived and just be closed for 30 days or less," Page said.

Diana Page says continued dry weather may speed up this aspect of the project as this summer's weather has put the road construction ahead of schedule.
