EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Evansville is joining several cities around the country in hosting National Night Out events.
They're meant to promote ties between neighbors and law enforcement. The National Night Out breakfast was held Monday to kick off the festivities.
The National Night Out mascot made a grand entrance from "The Guardian", EPD's new surveillance truck that will be on display for the public to see first hand at the event.
The biggest change this year is that National Night Out will all be held at Wesselman Park at 6:00 p.m. In previous years, the event would hold three separate events for the east, west and south sectors.
National Night Out is always held the first Tuesday in August in communities across the country. Tuesday's event will also include a K-9 demonstration, a fraud presentation and a first look inside The Guardian.
Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin says hosting the event at one location shows an even more united front.
"It's basically showing that neighborhoods and the police are working together to rid out crime from their neighborhoods and showing that it's a unified team front," Bolin said.
There are also events planned in Warrick County at Jeffries and Nottingham at 4:00 p.m.
Owensboro will be hosting a National Night Out at the Neblett Center from 5-7 p.m.
