WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Warrick County School Corporation says it will increase security at Castle High School when classes begin next week.

The sheriff's department is investigating an alleged online threat made by a student on Facebook.

On Monday, a letter was sent to parents letting them know the threat is being taken seriously.

Even though Superintendent Brad Schneider says he can't share any specific details, he wants to assure parents their kids will be safe.

"We're hopeful that the vast majority of parents will understand the situation we're in and will also, again, trust that school safety is a top priority," Schneider said.

The district says this is the first online threat of it's kind against the school.

A woman claiming to be the mother of the student in question tells 14 News her child was exercising their first amendment right to free speech.
