EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Evansville Police are stepping up their patrols at city parks and on the greenway, after hours.
The Evansville Parks and Recreation Department says they're seeing several benefits from police reinforcing the 11:00 p.m. closing time at all park facilities.
They tell 14 News, in just a few weeks time, police issued over 100 tickets or citations to people in parks or on the greenway after hours.
They tell us they're seeing less trash and less vandalism in areas where police have been out.
The Parks Department says they're also planning to add 25 signs on their properties, reminding patrons about that 11:00 p.m. closing time, and they say, these efforts aren't just temporary.
"It will continue and it will increase. We're still looking at the top 10-15 troubled areas, troubled parks. We've still got a review that's going to take place by some officers, as far as safety and lighting goes, and we're still looking for those places where we are actually going to have some surveillance cameras," said Executive Director of the Evansville Parks and Recreation Department Denise Johnson.
The Parks department says they're going to use information from police, neighborhood associations and what's happened in the past to figure out where they need those surveillance cameras, increased patrol and more lights.
