TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict northbound traffic to one lane on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson and Evansville starting Monday, August 6.
The lane restriction is to allow a detailed inspection of the northbound bridge structure. Engineers will be using a Snooper Truck to access the deck substructure on the bridge. To speed the inspection process, a climb team will be inspecting the bridge truss.
Starting Monday, northbound motorists can expect to encounter one lane traffic between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., CDT, each weekday.
To help minimize traffic disruptions, there may be periods during the inspection process where climbers will be able to work without a lane restriction. Motorists should be alert for climbers and their gear along the bridge curb during daylight hours.
On Saturday and Sunday, August 11th & 12th, northbound motorists can also expect to encounter one lane traffic between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
As soon as inspection work is completed on the northbound bridge, the inspection team plans to move to the southbound bridge. Southbound traffic restrictions are tentatively scheduled for August 20th through the 24th.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers and Indiana Department of Transportation engineers will use traffic control set up for the detailed inspection to complete their annual joint walk-through inspection to discuss and plan future maintenance projects. This will reduce the need for traffic restrictions at a later date.
All bridges get a formal detailed inspection every two years. Long-span bridges that cross lakes and major rivers in Kentucky get an additional annual safety inspection.
