Mackey sees considerable storm damage

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

There's been progress on power restoration in eastern Gibson County, but many are still left with a big mess to clean up after last night's storms.

Off Highway 168 near Mackey, many power lines and poles are still down among the debris. There is also large trees down in several yards.

One homeowner near Mackey says he was at the Oakland City Parade Tuesday night when he found out a large tree fell right on top of his house.

Homeowner Eddie Arendell tells us.. He *did still have power last night.. But there is some interior damage to the home.  Arendell says that Tuesday night wasn't his first battle with a big storm.

"The roof is sagging on the inside a little bit. They probably won't know until they get that tree lifted off there," Arendell said. "The rafters you know, they're bowed down, the walls are bowed down. '06 I was in that tornado in Evansville in a truck and I took a ride out behind Ellis Park through the field, so it's nothing new."

Many residents are still cleaning up debris, but they say their main concern is safety. Luckily, all the area residents 14 News talked with on Wednesday say they weren't injured by Tuesday night's storm.
