Two injured in Daviess County wreck

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -

A man and 3-year-old child passenger injured after a wreck in Daviess County, KY.

Police say 24-year-old Cory Burden was driving his SUV east bound on Hwy 54 near Philpot, KY, when he fell asleep at the wheel.

Police say Burden's vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert on the north side of Hwy 54. 

The vehicle became airborne and then struck an earthen embankment and a fence before overturning in a field.

Police say Burden was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. 

A 3-year old child passenger was restrained in a child safety seat and was not ejected and had only minor injuries.

Burden sustained severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
