Hot & dry July weather could spill into August

TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

It was a stormy end to July for some tri-staters Tuesday night, but most of the month was just hot and dry.

Overall, temperatures averaged 84.5 degrees, a full 6.5 degrees warmer than normal, making it one of the warmest July's on record.

The warmest day was on July 5th when we made it up to 107 degrees.  Altogether, we hit eight record highs last month.

As far as rainfall, it was much wetter than June, but still very dry with only about 2.33 inches in the rain gauge, which is 1.58 inches below normal.

Looking ahead, the Climate Prediction Center is calling for a 33 percent or greater chance for drier than normal conditions this month, continuing our trend since February.

There's a 50 percent or greater chance for warmer than normal temperatures. And the long-range outlook of August through October is calling for a good chance we'll see drier and hotter than normal conditions.

Of course, this forecast is an average over that time period, so we will have some cooler and wetter days mixed in there, but most likely not a lot of them.
