JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
This robber probably should have kept his day job, but now it's too late. Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a man they say went to his place of employment, held his co-workers up at gunpoint and stole money.
Deputies obtained a warrant for first degree robbery against Zackary Dexter Pace, a 24-year-old man from Birmingham, for an armed robbery that happened July 27 at the Jack's restaurant on Pinson Valley Parkway.
"Never been robbed before so it was shocking," Lawanda Phillips, general manager of the Jack's said.
Phillips says the suspect called her asking for a job several times and when she finally gave it to him he took advantage of the situation. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian says the suspect didn't do a very good job at it.
"His disguise was so poor," Christian said.
Christian says the suspect entered the restaurant in a black mask and didn't try to disguise his voice.
"Just about every employee in there called him by name and thought he was joking around," Christian said.
Yaneth Ardon is one of the employs who realized who the suspect was.
"I was like, is this a joke, is he playing or something," Ardon said. "When I heard him talk and I was like, that is him, but then I saw him with a gun and I was like why is he doing this?"
Deputies say Pace jumped the counter, grabbed some cash, and got away. But the story doesn't end there because later on, he came back.
"Ironically yesterday when our detectives were at the store interviewing the witnesses he showed up just to see how everyone was doing and we arrested him so obviously, not the smartest man in the world," Christian said.
Pace started working at Jack's in early July.
