EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A man was arrested after the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says he shot himself in the leg and then lied to deputies about it.

Deputies say they were called to Hornebrook Apartments early Monday morning where 28-year-old Jason Leasure had been shot.

Deputies say Leasure was wearing a holster, but told them a man came into his apartment and shot him.

Witnesses say Leasure actually shot himself while trying to show off a quick draw move. One witness said Leasure had been drinking, and so no one else would get hurt, the witness hid the gun.

It was recovered along with a spent bullet. Deputies say further investigation showed that Leasure was on the balcony of the apartment when he shot himself in the leg. Authorities found that the bullet went through the sliding glass doors and into the living room floor where deputies found the spent bullet.

Leasure evenutally said he was playing around with a gun and shot himself and there was not other suspect involved.

Leasure was taken to the hospital and then to jail. He's charged with criminal recklessness and false reporting.
