BOONVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A fire destroyed a home overnight in Warrick County and has left a family of five without a home.

14 News spoke to the family who are understandably upset and asking for any kind of support the community can offer.

The Boonville Fire Department says they received a call for the fire a little after 11:00 p.m. Saturday night in a house located in the 700 block of South Third Street.

Fire officials say one room suffered major fire damage, while the rest of the home has a considerable amount of smoke damage.

One of the homeowners, Regina McKinney, says she and her husband have three sons who live in the house with them.

On Sunday, friends and relatives of the McKinneys showed up to help board up windows on the house, and the family and their friends are asking the community to help provide clothing and other living essentials to the family that were lost in the fire.

"My husband's brother called us. We were at Scales Lake camping for the weekend, and he said that your house is in flames, you need to get here. I had seven kids, three of them mine and then four of their friends, and half of them were asleep. So I couldn't come with them. He came over here and we don't really know what happened to the house. We're just shocked," McKinney said.

The Red Cross says they are providing the family with a temporary place to stay.

The Boonville Fire Department says a cause of the fire has not yet been determined
