Suspect in fatal Indiana shooting found dead

PENDLETON, Ind. (AP) -

Authorities say an innocent bystander was fatally shot when a man allegedly opened fire in a central Indiana town and wounded two police officers.

Madison County Emergency Management spokesman Todd Harmeson says a person sitting in a car died after being shot Thursday night in the town of Pendleton about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Harmeson says the person was caught in the barrage of bullets police believe 59-year-old Jim Kenneth Bailey of New Castle fired as officers arrived at a residence to investigate a disturbance.

Bailey was found dead Friday morning in Pendleton from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Harmeson says an Anderson police officer suffered a non life-threatening leg wound in the shooting, while a Pendleton police officer was grazed by a bullet.
