EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Police arrested 25-year-old Scarlett Kelley Wednesday afternoon at the east side Wal-Mart.
She is in the Vanderburgh County Jail right now with bond set at $500 cash, facing preliminary charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police say Kelley had four young children with her at Wal-Mart.
We're told three were her children, ages six and under, and one belonged to a friend.
Police say Kelley passed all points of sale with more than 800 dollars worth of merchandise.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a loss prevention officer at Wwal-Mart saw the children helping tear tags off some of the merchandise.
"It's a sad situation that a parent would get their young children involved in that type of activity. And it's just a real poor lesson to be teaching the kids," said EPD Captain Andy Chandler.
Police say Kelley's children were released back to their father.
14 News spoke to him over the phone earlier Thursday and he says he was shocked about what happened.
Police say this is Scarlett Kelley's first arrest.
