OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The Baseball Players Association World Series kicked off Thursday in Daviess County.

Players from seven different states, ages eight and nine, and 13-year olds are playing for their chance to win a World Series.

CVB leaders say the tournament is always a big economic boost for Owensboro because the tournament lasts through Sunday, and people have to have a place to stay.

With the hot temperatures, officials say they have to keep a close eye on the players, with fans, misting stations, and tents set up all over fisher park.

"They just need to talk to the umpire and like I said, you know, we're not going to push them but certainly if they request a you know a break we'll grant that. You know we don't want anything. It's safety first," said CVB Sports Director Jared Bratcher.

Each team is only playing one game Thursday so they don't have to be out in the heat too long.
